Nosegay
avocado, black tea and nettle ink
8" x 8"
2020

During the pandemic I was without a studio to make print work. I began researching and experimenting in creating my own inks from foraged plant matter and food scraps. I used the ink created to paint vintage quilt patterns and lace.
Quilts evoke comfort and tradition in craft. I used this timeless pattern as a template for painting with ink from fugitive pigments nettles and avocado skins with the intention they might change or fade with time. The select application of color through positive and negative shapes from the two stencils, allows the patterns to incidentally emerge.
